To those who park their belongings on the window seats in Musselman Library,

To those who park their belongings on the window seats in Musselman Library,

It is no surprise that the window seats in Musselman Library are prized study locations on campus. As such, it is important to allow other people the chance to use them. Since there are so few, their availability is already going to be limited; that is simply the nature of the beast. Yet, when students park their belongings there all day, no one gets to enjoy the beautiful views. I have walked past those gorgeous window seats too many times and seen backpacks, books, and papers strewn about, yet without an owner doing work. Sometimes, I return hours later and see the same belongings in the same disorder, proving that one simply parked their things and left. I understand if one is running to Bullet to grab a quick bite-to-go, and intends to return in 20 minutes or so. But claiming a seat and then abandoning it for hours on end is not fair to those who wish to study there and enjoy the view. Please, in an effort to share the beauty that they offer, don’t monopolize them all day if you don’t intend to actually use them.

Sincerely,

Alexa Secrest
